Safer Roads In Sellindge Campaign

January 22, 2003 12:00 AM

Local campaigner Fred Turton is calling for action to tackle speeding on the A20 in Sellindge.

Fred said, "Many drivers are failing to keep to the 40mph limit through our village. This is placing pedestrians and other road users in real danger. They do not even seem to slow down when they are passing our local primary school."

Fred has also received complaints about speeding on Swan Lane and the lack of 30mph signs. He is now giving local people a chance to have their say on how to tackle the problems across our area.

Fred commented, "We want to hear residents ' views on the problems. Personally I feel that there should be a properly enforced 30mph speed limit throughout the village. I would also like to see a 20mph zone set up near our school to ensure our children are safer."

Once the consultation is complete, local Lib Dems will present the results to the Council and press for action to tackle speeding in the village.
