Give Folkestone A Voice

Folkestone town centre with John Hughes & Lynne Beaumont

Lib Dem campaigners John Hughes and Lynne Beaumont want to see a Town Council set up in Folkestone.

Lib Dem Councillors are backing the creation of a Town Council for Folkestone.

At the recent meeting of the Folkestone Charter Trustees, 11 Lib Dems voted in favour of the move. They were opposed by one Labour Councillor. Other Labour and Conservative Councillors abstained.

Local Councillor David Dickinson said, "In contrast with the District Council, a Town Council will concentrate only on Folkestone's needs: it will support local individuals and organisations, run local events and provide local facilities and services."

"Unlike the present Charter Trustees, it will have legal powers for planning, highway matters, fundraising and partnership with other bodies."

David continued, "Most importantly, through direct consultation and community involvement, local people will once again acquire a meaningful input into the running and regeneration of their own town. This is a great town with a proud history: we deserve much better than we are getting from the District, so let's sign up for it!"

If you would like to see a Folkestone Town Council, you can sign the petition being run by 'Go Folkestone' at the Town Centre Manager's Office in Folkestone.
