Peter Carroll Visits Folkestone Fire Station

Lib Dem campaigner Peter Carroll visited Folkestone Fire Station on Friday to see at first hand the work of the Fire Service in Folkestone. During the visit, Station Officer Barry Douglas and Watch Commander Vic Thurgood explained the extent of the fire prevention work carried out by the Brigade and demonstrated the new technology and equipment used in Fire & Rescue situations.
Peter Carroll said, 'The visit was immensely useful. Like most people, I was aware of the fantastic work that the Fire Service do in terms of fighting fires and playing the leading role in rescue work. However, I was not fully aware of the very great amount of work that the Brigade undertake in fire prevention. They spend a great deal of time in analysing the sources of fires, driving down malicious calls, educating the public and training. I had not realised that the Fire Service will actually supply and fit a free smoke alarm if people request this'.
Peter Carroll spent just over two hours with the men of Blue Watch. They demonstrated the in cab satellite link now being fitted to fire appliances and a whole range of rescue equipment.
