Carroll Opposes Lydd Airport Expansion

Lib Dem Campaigner Peter Carroll has added his voice to the calls for a public inquiry into the proposed expansion of Lydd Airport. There are moves to lengthen the runway and to encourage greater use of the airport by commercial airliners.
Peter Carroll said, 'My own view is that I cannot see that there is any good reason to develop Lydd Airport in this way. East Kent already has the benefit of a growing airport at Manston. Neither the region nor the Marsh needs this kind of airport expansion. All this will bring is noise, pollution and traffic congestion to the Marsh. It will seriously affect the environment and ruin the quality of life of a large number of people in Dymchurch, St Mary's Bay, Greatstone, Littlestone and surrounding areas. If plans are formally tabled for this expansion, the whole matter should at the very least go to a Public Inquiry so that all the issues can be fully explored'.
