Please consider others for a good time at Halloween

October 24, 2005 12:31 PM

Halloween PumpkinKent Police have issued guidance to "trick and treaters", and those who are are worried by them, over the Halloween period. Their advice to those worried about strangers coming to their door at Halloween, particularly those calling late in the evening is:

  • remember - you don't have to answer the door
  • make it clear you don't want to be disturbed by displaying a small poster making stating that Halloween visitors are not welcome

The poster is available from local police stations and Neighbourhood Watch offices. Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and KCC wardens will also have copies or you can download and print out a copy (see link at foot of this page). Alternatively they will available to cut out from your local paper.

If you or your family are going to go out 'trick or treating', Kent Police recommend following these guidelines:

  • a responsible adult should always accompany children calling on people as part of Halloween
  • don't call on anyone you don't know
  • respect the wishes of those who do not want to take part,
  • don't get carried away and, even in fun, threaten anyone or damage any property - Halloween is not an excuse for vandalism
  • don't wear dark clothing - make sure you can be seen by drivers by wearing something bright.

For more information on community safety initiatives or advice on crime prevention, contact your local police station.
