Beaumont elected as new leader of Shepway Lib Dem Group

Lynne Beaumont: "Shepway Council faces enormous challenges in the months ahead, if it is to provide decent services for local people."
Cllr Lynne Beaumont has been elected as the new leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Shepway District Council. Cllr Beaumont was elected by a convincing margin at a special meeting on Thursday 15th December. She replaces Cllr David Dickinson who is stepping down, as he does not intend to stand for the district council again in 2007.
Cllr Lynne Beaumont said:
"I am delighted to take on this challenge. Local people need to know that the Liberal Democrats on Shepway District Council are working hard to represent them. Shepway Council faces enormous challenges in the months ahead, if it is to provide decent services for local people. You only have to look at the current conservative fiasco on kerbside recycling, to see how important a Liberal Democrat voice is."
Cllr David Dickinson said:
"I felt as though I should stand down. I've been proud to lead the liberal democrats over recent months. As I have decided not to stand for the council in 2007, I should step down as leader, to give the new person a chance to carry the group forward."
Neil Matthews was elected Deputy Leader of the Group at the meeting, adding to his role as leader of the Liberal Democrats on Hythe Town Council.
