Lost Gamble: Shepway Fail to Make Casino Shortlist

Shepway's bid to be considered for one of the 8 new "large" or "small" casinos that will be licenced nationwide has failed. The shortlist for potential sites has been announced today, and the Folkestone Seafront site has lost out to bids from competing authorities including Hastings and Dartford.
The shortlisted authorities were:
Regional - Blackpool; Brent; Cardiff; Glasgow; Greenwich; Manchester; Newcastle; Sheffield.
Large and Small - Bath & NE Somerset; Bournemouth; Brighton; Canterbury; Chelmsford; Dartford; Dudley; Dumfries and Galloway; East Lindsey; Gt Yarmouth; Hastings; Hull; Leeds; Leicester; Luton; Mansfield; Middlesbrough; Milton Keynes; Newham; N E Lincs; Peterborough; Restormel; Scarborough; Sefton; Solihull; Southampton; South Tyneside; Swansea; Thurrock; Torbay; Wolverhampton.
The rejection is seen as a blow to Jimmy Godden, Trent Developments and the Rotunda Seafront re-development, who were proposing that the casino would be a part of their hotel and leisure development on Folkestone seafront.
The Shepway application cited long standing authority support for a casino locally and claimed a casino could bring up to 400 new jobs to the area.
