Channel Academy Construction Works

A number of residents of the Grasmere Gardens area have contacted the Lib Dem team about serious issues arising from the construction of the new academy adjacent to the Channel School.
The construction works have lead to changes in the way that the area is drained and one house has been flooded following heavy rain. Other residents have noticed cracks appearing in their homes and have been concerned that this may be linked to the site work. Many residents have complained that the site appears to be working outside the hours set out before the work started causing a noise nuisance.
Cllr Lynne Beaumont said:
'The new academy is very close to people's homes. Local resident Jim Anderson has offered to be a contact point for local people with concerns. Jim has already attended a number of meetings with Wates construction.
"We are pressing for Wates to work only during the agreed hours, to make sure that the new surface drains are connected to reduce the risk of flooding and for the company to co-operate with local people who are concerned about the cracks in their property. Jim can be contacted on 01303 259459."
Local Lib Dem campaigner Peter Carroll said:
"Residents are understandably concerned about these issues. By acting as a communication channel between local people and the construction company we hope that people can at least work on the basis of facts.
"We have learnt that the rumours that the builders will use the proposed Lucy Avenue entrance to bring in large pieces of plant and building equipment are unfounded. This entrance will only be used at the very end of the construction phase."
