Harcourt School Consultation - Last Few Days

July 6, 2006 3:17 PM

Pupils and parents demonstrate against the closure of Harcourt SchoolThere are just a few more days to go before the 14 July deadline for responses to the consultation on the future of Harcourt and Morehall Primary Schools.

Cheriton Councillors Peter Gane and Tim Prater have written to all Folkestone Town Councillors urging them to help save Harcourt Primary School in Cheriton.

Harcourt Primary School is one of 50 schools in Kent under threat of closure under Conservative Kent County Council's education plans.

The current public consultation on the plans to close Harcourt and send the pupils there to Morehall School runs until 14 July, and all local residents, parents and others are invited to have their say.

The letter from Councillors Gane and Prater to Folkestone Town Councillors urged all of them to both support a motion to Folkestone Town Council in support of Harcourt School on 13 July and to write to Kent County Council individually.

Peter Gane says:

"It's really important that as many people as possible make it clear to Kent County Council that they want their local schools to remain open.

"With a big response against the closure / merger, we hope that Kent will look at our alternative proposals which keep schools open."

Any concerned person can take part in the Kent County Council Consultation, with reply forms available from www.shepwaylibdems.org.uk/harcourt/
