De Menezes Police man shoots man dead in New Romney

A man has been shot dead by police during a Flying Squad operation to prevent a suspected armed robbery attempt in New Romney. The policeman involved in the shooting has since been named as one of the two officers who shot Charles De Menezes last year at Stockwell Tube Station.
The man, who has not been named, died in hospital after the incident at the Nationwide building society in New Romney on Tuesday night.
Three men were arrested as part of the Metropolitan Police operation. No police officers were injured.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to investigate the death.
A firearm recovered at the scene was taken away for forensic examination.
Kent Police said its officers were working closely with the Metropolitan Police and the IPCC to investigate the suspected robbery attempt and the shooting, which happened at about 2000 GMT.
The shot man died after being taken by ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
