Lib Dems call for Microgeneration

Lib Dems at Shepway Council have called for a percentage of all new housing that is built in our area to have microgeneration included in its plans. Microgeneration is a scheme whereby householders can install small energy creating devices on their property, like solar panels or a small wind turbine on the roof.

The Lib Dem Group proposed a motion that was passed by Shepway Council in April 2006. Sadly, the Council's Conservative and People First Leaders have still not put it into practice. Cllr Lynne Beaumont is now questioning Council leaders as to when they plan to implement these new measures.

Lynne said:

"Microgeneration could play an important part in reducing cutting the need to use fossil fuels. Shepway should get its act together to become a leader in encouraging its use in new build housing.

"In Shepway, we need to have a real interest in dealing with global warming - climate change could bring catastrophic flooding to our area."
