Lydd Airport runway expansion will lead to flights over Folkestone

Shepway Councillor Lynne Beaumont has warned that Folkestone, Sandgate and Hythe residents may soon have to get used to the noise of Boeing 737s flying over Folkestone. Plans to expand the runway at Lydd Airport aim to allow these large planes to operate out of Lydd.
The flightpath the planes will use will bring them inland at Capel, and follow the A259 over Folkestone, Hythe and then along the Marsh before landing at Lydd.
Recent Boeing 737's can carry around 200 passengers and have a wing span of 34m (110 feet). The 737 is one of the most common commercial aircraft, and is used extensively by air lines such as Easyjet.
Lynne Beaumont is playing an active role in the campaign to stop the extension to the runway. She, and others, feel that the Airport's stated target of 2 million passengers a year would bring chaos to local roads, and destroy the unique environment of the Marsh.
Lynne said "It's easy to dismiss this as a Romney Marsh issue, but these planes will be flying over our homes here in Folkestone too!"
