High winds cause Kent travel disruption

January 18, 2007 10:51 AM
Cross Channel Ferry (P&O)

Cross Channel services from Dover by P&O Ferries, SeaFrance, Norfolkline and Speedferries have all been suspended

High winds are causing disruption across Kent today, with the Port of Dover and the Sheppey Crossing shut, and delays at the Dartford Crossing. Phase 1 of Operation Stack has also been implemented on the M20, closing the motorway from Junction 11-12.

The Highways Agency has advised all motorists to take extra care and to plan their routes in advance. The high winds have led to a number of roads being blocked by accidents and falling trees. The A20 in Dover is closed to high sided vehicles both ways at the Court Wood Interchange junction, and the A2 Jubilee Way in Dover is closed to all traffic both ways.

The Port of Dover says that all cross channel services with P&O Ferries & SeaFrance to Calais, Norfolkline to Dunkerque and Speedferries to Boulogne have been suspended until further notice, and passengers are advised to contact their operator for further information.
