Kent's Street Light Mix-up

Broken street lights in Folkestone

Local Lib Dem campaigner Gary Fuller was shocked to discover last week that Kent County Council (KCC) had sent him the name, address, e-mail address and telephone number of a Maidstone resident who, like himself, had made use of their on-line fault reporting system to report broken street lights and other local issues.

Commenting on the mistake, Gary said:

"It would appear that not only do KCC struggle to fix broken street lights, but they also struggle to work out whom to respond to when issues are reported. This is not exactly the best example of data protection - lets hope they have more success repairing the lights than they do replying to emails!"

Gary has been campaigning hard for months to get street lights in central Folkestone fixed, including one in Bouverie Road West, near Sainsbury's, which is very close to the site of the mugging of a young girl at knife point, which was reported in last week's Herald. This week, he has written to KCC to complain about the lack of action taken to fix broken street lights, which is leaving parts of central Folkestone in almost complete darkness at night and increasing the danger to local residents from opportunist criminals.
