Don't KO Our PO: Saltwood To Protest Against Proposed PO By 'Walking' To Hythe Post Office

Neil Matthews: It is an outrage that the Post Office should target Saltwood

After two Village meetings Saltwood residents residents are taking to the streets in protest at plans to close Saltwood Post Office permanently. They fear the Post Office view Saltwood Post Office as an easy target following the pull out of the sub master this summer.

Vice Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Neil Matthews said "Saltwood Post Office has been well used, profitable and is at the hub of the Village. It is an outrage that the Post Office should target Saltwood in its closure programme!"

The Post Office states that although Hythe Post Office is over one mile away, it offers a suitable alternative to Saltwood residents. With Saltwood residing on top of the hill behind Hythe, getting there would require a degree of fitness and time. Nearby parking in the Town for access to Hythe Post Office is limited and the already busy Post Office experiences long queues on most days.

Villagers are to show their disapproval by staging a 'Walk' to the town on Saturday 10th November. They are meeting on Saltwood's Village Green at 10.15 am with the Walk starting at 10.30 am. Those that cannot walk will be joining the others as they pass by the Town Square (outside Aldi's) as they prepare to use Hythe's Post Office.
