Folkestone Fire Brigade in Cliff Top Dog Rescue

November 16, 2007 3:04 PM

A pleasant walk with the dog led to a cliff top drama in Folkestone when the pet disappeared over a cliff top. Folkestone firefighters were called to cliffs at the Warren at 11.45 this morning with a report of a dog who ran from its lady owner, then fell from the footpath into the steep drop below.

The fire crew arrived at the scene near the Battle of Britain Memorial a few minutes later and soon located the grey and black cocker spaniel about 15 feet below the cliff top. It is believed the dog was named Tye.

With the anxious owner looking on, a firefighter was lowered down the cliff face to where Tye, tired and distressed, was stuck in brambles and in danger of falling further. The crew member managed to retrieve the dog and both were lifted back to safety using safe access equipment - a line-based system for lowering and raising firefighters into areas of difficult or hazardous access.

Tye and his owner were happily reunited by 12.05. Watch Manager Vic Thorogood of Blue Watch praised his crew for bringing about a successful outcome.
