Bouverie Square Opens its Doors to Folkestone Shoppers

November 26, 2007 3:57 PM

Bouverie Square - Folkestone's new £30m shopping centre - was opened this morning at 10am. The opening party included Centre Manager Paul Stone, Michael Howard MP, Shepway Council Chairman George Bunting, Mayor of Folkestone Peter Gane and Deputy Mayor Emil Sanger.

Bouverie Square has stores including Next, BHS, Peacocks, the Body Shop, Sportsworld, HMV, New Look, Poundland and Asda. Bouverie Place also incorporates a a three-storey car park, a new doctors and dental surgery, a main shopping mall and an open-air square which has a Starbucks Coffee shop.

Many Lib Dem Councillors were present at the opening, and took the opportunity for to get some shopping! Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"The new stores really improve the selection available in the town - I think I've already tracked down a few Christmas and birthday presents already! ASDA is pretty huge, and the store seemed to be running pretty smoothly while we were shopping there this morning - pretty impressive on the first day!

"What was also good to see on the opening day was that there seemed to be more people than usual in the main precinct as well, and not just in the new centre."
