Folkestone Post Office Move Date Confirmed

January 30, 2008 3:22 PM

Shepway Lib Dems outside Folkestone Post Office with www.saveourpostoffice.org.uk bannerFolkestone's main post office will re-open in WHSmith's in Sandgate Road on March 6, replacing the existing post office in Bouverie Place. The move comes despite wide spread local resistance to the move, which will see the main Bouverie Place office close.

Lib Dem Town Councillor for Harvey Central Ward (home to the current Post Office and WHSmiths) Gary Fuller said:

"Many local people see this as the downgrading of yet another service in our town. The queues in the main Post Office can be huge, and I still don't believe that the same number of people can be successfully offered the same level of service at WHSmiths.

"I predict big queues and serious disruption on WHSmiths on Sandgate road in March when the service moves."

The move comes on top of the recent closure by the Post office of five sub Post Offices across Shepway at:

  • Enbrook Valley, 99 Enbrook Valley, Eynsford, Folkestone
  • Littlestone, 4 Warren Road, New Romney
  • Saltwood, The Fountain Stores, Saltwood, Hythe
  • Seabrook Road, 246 Seabrook Road, Hythe
  • Shorncliffe, 2 Royal Military Avenue, Folkestone
