Folkestone Triennial 2008: Tales of Time and Space

February 12, 2008 11:00 AM

The inaugural Folkestone Triennial 'Tales of Time and Space' will take place from 14 June to 14 September at locations across Folkestone, and the festivals web site has been launched at www.folkestonetriennial.org.uk

The festival will feature free exhibitions of sculpture, photography, film, installations, sound-work & performances inspired by Folkestone's past, present and future. All the works have been specially commissioned for Folkestone from internationally acclaimed and emerging artists, and will be presented in public spaces - the beach, the harbour, parks, the marine promenade and historic buildings.

The festival curator is Andrea Schlieker, and the commissioned artists include some of the most famous international artists: David Batchelor, Christian Boltanski, Adam Chodzko, Nathan Coley, Tacita Dean, Jeremy Deller, Mark Dion, Tracey Emin, Ayse Erkmen, Jeppe Hein, Sejla Kameric, Robert Kusmirowski, Langlands and Bell, Kaffe Matthews, Heather and Ivan Morison, Nils Norman with Gavin Wade mit Simon & Tom Bloor, Susan Philipsz, Public Works, Patrick Tuttofuoco, Mark Wallinger, Richard Wentworth, Pae White, Richard Wilson.

The Folkestone Triennial will feature a full programme of events intended to create a stimulating encounter with the Triennial and Folkestone itself. A series of guided art walking tours and events will run throughout the 91 days of the Triennial.

Conducted by leading figures from the worlds of art, culture and history, along with local expertise and insights, the tours provide an opportunity for visitors and residents to be led around the site specific works, whilst also engaging with the architecture, the seaside setting, the history and culture of the town, all of which have inspired the artists' responses. The tours provide fun and informal access to the Triennial.

The tours will be linked to an umbrella programme of events and talks - some of which will feature as part of the tours themselves.Variations on the walking tours, such as dog-walking tours, picnics, cycle tours and audio tours are also being planned. The tours will be ticketed and places will be limited. Advance booking is advisable. Please return to the site for more details in April 2008.
