Shepway Write-off £145,000 in Council Tax

Shepway District Council wrote off £145,000 of Council Tax as uncollectable in 2006-07. Overall, English councils wrote off more than £130m of unpaid tax last year, according to figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Neighbouring Ashford Borough Council wrote off £4,000 over the same period, and Dover District Council £71,000.
The write-off figures for all Kent Authorities for 2006-07 were:
- Ashford £4,000
- Canterbury £183,000
- Dartford £410,000
- Dover £71,000
- Gravesham £743,000
- Maidstone £148,000
- Medway Towns UA £278,000
- Sevenoaks £270,000
- Shepway £145,000
- Thanet £870,000
- Tonbridge & Malling £84,000
- Tunbridge Wells £93,000
- Kent Total £3,299,000
