Val Loseby: A great result for local residents

Following a long running campaign by Lib Dem New Romney Coast Councillor Val Loseby and local residents, the owners of Lydd Airport (London Ashford Airport) have agreed to cut the glare of floodlights over complaints of light pollution.

Residents in Dunes Road said intense floodlighting from London Ashford Airport (LAA), at Lydd, had left them unable to see the stars at night. Councillor Loseby had taken the matter up on behalf of local residents with Shepway District Council.

Shepway District Council said it did not believe there was a huge impact on houses, but the glare could be reduced. Zach Deir, LAA managing director, said it did not want to be a nuisance to neighbours and had "dipped the lights".

Val Loseby commented:

"This is a great result. I am really pleased for the residents of Dunes Road after all these months of trying to get things moving with Shepway District Council Planning department."
