Abnormal loads on the road between Chatham Dockyard and Romney Marsh: 21-31 July

July 18, 2008 9:11 AM

Kent Police is warning drivers of abnormally long loads planned to be travelling between Chatham Dockyard and Romney Marsh from Monday 21 July. This is the second phase of police escorting vehicles carrying propeller blades for wind turbines which will be moving along Kent roads at up to three loads at one time.

It follows 27 loads which were escorted at the beginning of June this year.

On Monday 21 July there will be two movements of three loads leaving Chatham Dockyard at between 5.30 and 6am and again at around 11am.

The vehicles will travel along the A289 Medway tunnel road, then join the M2 exiting at junction three. The loads will continue down Bluebell Hill and join the M20, exiting at junction 10. They will then travel along the A2070, A259 and arrive at the site in Romney Marsh.

This will be repeated throughout the week, with no loads travelling at the weekend. It is expected that movements will continue on Monday 28 July until Thursday 31 July with up to two loads travelling at the same times, 5.30am and 11am, thereby avoiding the busiest times on the roads.

Six Kent Police motorcyclists and one car will escort each movement.

Motorists are urged to listen to local radio travel bulletins before setting on their journey to ensure they avoid any traffic delays. Kent Police is working closely with the Highways Agency and Kent County Council's Highways department to ensure the least possible disruption.
