£400 Cash boost for Cheriton Guides from Kent Police Property Fund

July 18, 2008 9:15 AM

A group of Girl Guides in Cheriton is benefiting from a cash boost from the Kent Police Property Fund. Eighteen girls aged 10 to 15 make up the 2nd Cheriton Guides and they meet at St Andrews Church Hall on Monday nights.

Mark Ball, PCSO for Cheriton presented the Guides with a cheque for £400 which they plan to put towards activities like rock climbing and abseiling.

The Kent Police Property fund is made up of the proceeds from the sale, at auction, of unclaimed lost property and items seized in police operations.

The proceeds raised at the auction are presented to local charitable groups that work for the good of the local community, and around £7,000 is donated in the South Kent area each year.

PCSO Ball stayed with the group while they practised their cooking skills and said:

"It has been a pleasure to meet these young people and see all the good work they are doing and the positive contribution they are making to their community.

"I know they would like to get involved in some adventurous activities when they have their Guide Camp, and I'm sure this donation will help them to achieve that."
