Parade Steps Area a Mess

Gary Fuller has contacted Shepway District Council on behalf of local resident John Bird to see what can be done to sort out the area of the Parade Steps, which lead from the Parade down to the Harbour area in Folkestone.

Last week the walls next to the steps were covered in graffiti at various points and slabs had been removed and damaged. Litter was strewn on a section of land adjoining the steps and access could be gained to the cliffs via a low wall, with a potential risk of falling from a high wall at the cliff edge into the gardens below. The gardens below, which have a plaque identifying Eucalyptus trees planted there, were themselves a mess.

Commenting, local resident John Bird said:

"Just look at it. It's totally derelict. It's a mess!"

Attempts to identify who owns one piece of land affected by the mess have so far been unsuccessful, although figures at Shepway District Council have assured Gary that they are looking into the issue.

Commenting, Lib Dem Folkestone Town Councillor Gary said:

"Not only is this area of land currently an eyesore, but there could be potential dangers. We need to find out who owns it and get what could be a beautiful route down to the harbour sorted out quickly!"

Last Wednesday a group of youths were caught attempting to vandalise the wall next to the steps with an old bolster after a tip off from a member of the public.
