Tour Of Shorncliffe Redoubt, Military Cemetery And Great War Trenches

An opportunity to commemorate two significant dates in British History at the same time and same place - this tour will take place on Saturday November 8 at 12.30 hrs concluding about 15.00 hrs.

This free tour will be led by Michael George, co-author of Coast of Conflict (2004) and Dover and Folkestone during the Great War (2008) - the meeting place is Shorncliffe Military Cemetery. We shall explore the remains of the Redoubt, the centre piece of Shorncliffe under Moore. Adjacent to the Redoubt is Shorncliffe Military Cemetery, the final resting place of warriors for over 200 years, including the large Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. During the Great War thousands of soldiers lived and trained in the area. Several hundred died here from illness, from wounds sustained in battle and other causes. Many are buried at Shorncliffe.

Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for weather and muddy, sometimes hilly, walking.
