Today in Parliament, Sharon voted in favour of a European Union move to allow ports to meet the dual challenges of sustainable development and attracting investment.
"I know that ports form a vital part of the life of my constituents. For example, nearly three million motorists take their cars through Dover each year. They are also a source of employment, and the arrival point for many common consumer goods.
"This plan aims to increase efficiency, productivity, and profitability, while still respecting the environment. At this time of economic turmoil it is essential that we offer them the support they need, and I believe that this is an excellent example of how the European Union and European Parliament can work together to do just that."
