Hythe Sports Pavilion can keep Kent County Grant confirms Matthews

Neil Matthews

Neil Matthews: "The Sports Pavilion project was instigated when I was Hythe's Mayor"

Following concerns that Kent County Council was now asking for the return of a grant of £10,000 toward the cost of Hythe's new Sports Pavilion, Neil Matthews, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Folkestone and Hythe, contacted Chris Metherell, KCC's

Kent Sports Facilities Development Manager, to clarify the situation.

Neil said:

"We discussed the issue of the Sports Pavilion and the large grant Hythe Town Council has just received from the Football Foundation. Mr Metherell had been unaware of this grant when he asked for the money back." Neil continued, " Mr Metherell assured me he would not be invoicing Hythe Town Council for the £10,000 in the circumstances.".

Neil added:

"The Sports Pavilion project (Plan B) was instigated when I was Hythe's Mayor following the collapse of the Sports Centre and swimming pool project in which Shepway District Council was involved as a partner. It would have been a shame to lose the support of the County Council at this stage of Plan B".
