Super Cheriton Tuesday - Action on Streetlights and Potholes at last

March 10, 2009 12:07 PM

Teams from Kent Highways have been working on a variety of issues reported by Cheriton Councillor Tim Prater today, with some really long-standing problems receiving attention, including in Military Road and Horn Street.

  • In Horn Street near St Martins School, many old streetlights have been replaced and most new ones are working. Two lights are still out due to a reported cable fault, which we hope KCC will sort soon
  • In Military Road, Cheriton, a work team have replaced a broken cable that had kept lights out of action for over 2 months
  • Potholes in Military Road, Sandgate have now been marked for repair
  • Road markings at the junction of North Road and Military Road have been repainted, making the junction clearer
  • Road markings in sections of Sandgate High Street / Sandgate Hill are being repainted
  • Road markings have been replaced in Beachborough Road near Folkestone West railway station following recent road surfacing works.

Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"It's good to see these works being done, but in a number of places - notably Military Road and Horn Street, repairs have been awaited for months. Although the repairs are really welcome, its a disgrace that we have had to wait so long to see them.

"When I was speaking to the work team in Military Road earlier, they explained that they had repaired the cable fault which should get most of the lights working there, but one or two lights will still not work as some lamps awaiting new "heads" and some replacement work is planned for old style lights. Equally, in Horn Street, there remains a problem with some lights not working, which has been acknowledged by Kent Highways to St Martins School.

"Today we have had some good progress, and I hope Kent Highways will now speedily follow up and complete the outstanding repairs."
