Business and Voluntary Groups Pulling together to Give Folkestone a Lift!

May 12, 2009 9:27 AM

Despite a high profile campaign Shepway District Council Cabinet surrendered the lease on the Folkestone Lift last month. This means that at the end of June they will no longer be running the service. To ensure that the lift does not rot into insignificance a new way forward will need to be found.

A number of groups from the business and voluntary sections of Folkestone have come forward with ideas and support. In order to give these various groups the opportunity to network and to try and take the best of the various suggestions and ideas forward a public meeting has been called for Tuesday 19th May at 5.00pm at Channel Chamber of Commerce's offices on the Shearway Business Park.

If you have a talent, cash or expertise that you can share with the group, an interest in Folkestone history or have a group or business with an potential interest in the lift you are asked to attend. RSVP to info@channelchamber.co.uk if you can attend. The meeting will only take an hour - it is not intended to be a "talking shop" more of an action committee which will hopefully come up with an action plan to ensure the Leas lift is in safe hands for the future.
