County Councillors back plans to slow traffic on Sandgate Hill

August 18, 2009 5:02 PM

Lib Dem County Councillor Tim Prater and Conservative County Councillor Rolund Tolputt have joined forces to ask Kent Highways to tackle speeding traffic on the border of Folkestone and Sandgate.

Using the new "Members Highway Fund" which allocates £25,000 a year to each County Councillor to pay for road schemes in their area, the two County Councillors have worked with Sandgate Parish Councillors to develop a scheme to slow traffic down Sandgate Hill as it descends from Sandgate Road towards and beyond the junction with Coolinge Lane and Radnor Cliff Crescent.

Folkestone West and Sandgate County Councillor Tim Prater said:

"The current 'Slow' sign painted on the road does not have enough impact to remind traffic - the descent causes traffic to increase speed towards a dangerous junction.

"We want to have a much more impactful, flashing / lit 'Slow down' sign and to investigate ''rumble strips' across the road to again alert drivers to their speed at least in the approach to the Coolinge Lane junction, which is particularly dangerous at school times."
