Lib Dem Councillors Darren Briddock, Sam and Neil Matthews celebrate work starting on the new Hythe Sports Pavilion

Lib Dem Hythe councillors for Neil Matthews, Darren Briddock and Sam Matthews are delighted that work has begun today on Hythe's new sports pavilion.

The new pavilion is being constructed In South Road, Hythe to replace the old structure that has been in decay for many years.

"It is wonderful to see this new facility being built at last. Hopefully the build will run on schedule and the people of Hythe will be able to benefit from this new facility by spring next year." said Cllr Darren Briddock.

The scheme was Hythe district councillor, and former Town Mayor, Neil Matthews' "Plan B" when the plans for the Hythe sports centre fell through in 2007 after the failure of a PPP bid to build full new sports centres in Folkestone and Hythe. Neil said:

"The people of Hythe have been waiting far too long for these new facilities. I'm so pleased to see workers now on site."

Work is due to be completed within 36 weeks.
