Kent Trading Standards warn Businesses on "Trusted Trader" adverts

February 5, 2010 4:08 PM

Kent Trading Standards have received reports concerning a man who purports to be a policeman contacting businesses by phone. The trader is told that they have been called as they are a trusted trader and that the police are running a magazine highlighting the work of rogue traders and want to include a section on trusted traders.

Traders are told there will be a charge of around £110 for the advertisement for their business. Traders even though not agreeing to have an advert placed are then receiving invoices from a publishing company for a payment request for the full amount.

Kent Trading Standards is advising businesses to be wary over this type of advertising being sold over the telephone and to take their time to find out about the publisher and publication before agreeing to the service.

If you have been approached by the company you can also report the matter to Trading Standards via Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
