March 22, 2010 11:02 AM

A community 'Question Time' event, organised by the Research Councils UK and the Institute of Ideas Debating Matters Competition, is taking place in Folkestone at 7.00pm on Monday 29 March.

In the style of the BBC's Question Time, leading thinkers, entrepreneurs and experts will engage with audience questions related to issues such as:

  • The war on terror, both at home and abroad
  • Cyber-security
  • Is free speech on the internet under threat?
  • Religion and society
  • The elections and contemporary politics
  • The environment and climate change

Speakers will include: Sean Lang, Senior Lecturer in History, Anglia Ruskin University; Rob Killick, CEO cScape; blogger, UK After the Recession; Clifford Longley, journalist, author and broadcaster; panellist, BBC Radio 4's Moral Maze; David Petch, retired commissioner, Independent Police Complaints Commission; Tony Gilland, Science and Society Director, Institute of Ideas; Debating Matters Director (Chair).

More will be announced soon.

The discussion will be attended by a wide range of individuals from the community. The event is organised by the Institute of Ideas Debating Matters Competition and Research Councils UK Global Uncertainties Programme, in association with Harvey Grammar School. It will create a space where ideas can be argued for and fought over without constraint. In the spirit of Institute of Ideas events, free speech is allowed!

The venue for the event is: Harvey Grammar School, Cheriton Road, Folkestone, CT19 5JY

Tickets are free but availability is limited. To avoid disappointment, contact Helen Birtwistle to reserve a place helenbirtwistle@instituteofideas.com / 020 7269 9232.
