Kent and Academies: An update from Paul Carter

Paul Carter, Conservative Leader of Kent County Council, has refuted suggestions in the press that KCC would like to see all Kent schools convert to academies. He made a statement in July 2011 saying that Kent did not want to see all schools change to academies.

Paul Carter said in an email to all schools in Kent:

"You may be aware that the Courier have released a story this week which claims the council would like to see 100% of schools converted to Academies.

"I am writing to confirm that our position has not changed since my letter to you all in July. Mike Whiting has been massively misquoted by the reporter, Stuart Woledge, and the Courier. Our press office are speaking to the paper about a clarification."

Tim Prater, Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Folkestone West and Sandgate, commented:

"Good! I strongly support Kent schools retaining local authority support. Overall standards will rise where there is good support and colaboration between all schools. I welcomed Paul Carter's statement in July, and I'm pleased he stands by that now."
