Conservative Hythe Town Council have voted in the last few weeks to increase their proportion of the total Council tax bill for local residents by a whopping 15%.

Their budget also slashes support for the popular Hythe Festival from £5,000 to a measly £1,000.

In Folkestone, the Liberal Democrat Town Council there have just announced that they will have a ZERO tax increase this year. This follows a ZERO rise last year as well. In 2005 when the Lib Dems ran Hythe Town Council, they set a ZERO rise in Hythe as well.

Ex-Mayor of Hythe Neil Matthews says:

"This rise is outrageous. This year Conservative Hythe Town Council will slam council tax payers with a 15% increase, and then Shepway Council will take another £35 Garden Tax from those using the brown-top bin service."
